The 2009 season finale ends on some of MN's
best single track!
St. Cloud, MN Single
Track Attack:
It turned out to be some of
the fastest racing all season long on the last race of the year. Friday was filled with rain and doubts of a clean bike
at races end. But on saturday, when the race announcer yelled gooooooooooo!!! it was as beautiful a day as every racer
hopes for. The rain from the night before settled down the dust and made the 5.5 mile, single track loop the most perfect
tackyness for bike riding. Not a single corner was too muddy nor was the dust from all 68 citizen riders, 89 sport riders,
45 comp riders and 37 expert riders, too much to choke you into submission.
The 2009 season finale was an absolute blast. The day's most notable battle was in the Comp category, where
Rick Ochs and Luke Baker finished their 20 mile technical tease in 5th and 6th place overall in that category. Luke,
Rick and Jack finished 1st in their age division while the new dad on the team, Nate Kremer finished 2nd in his age division
and 12th overall in Comp.
In the Sport division, Kevin
took the lead on the team placing 32nd overall and 4th in his age group. Finishing right behind him was Adam Caughey
who placed 33rd overall, just 7 seconds behind Kevin. Allison Baker blessed the team by racing and rounding out the
Summit Racing Teams Sport category with a 6th place finish out of all the women.
I sure was thankful to make it back to MN to race. I loved all 26 miles of that course and
was really happy with my finish. 13th overall out of 37 experts/pro's.
A very special thanks to Jeremy Schaeffer, who joined the Summit Racing Team for the day. Jeremy
was a college friend/roommate of mine who wanted to see what racing was all about. He placed 37th out of 68 in the Citizen
class. Not bad at all for someone who has never been on a mountain bike trail before. Maybe we'll see Jeremy joining
us next year.
Well, until next time. Happy riding and remember, keep the rubber
side down.
See you at the races!
