Kevin Leiferman college bound in Marshall, MN
For all those people out there who dream of riding a pro's mountain bike and think to themselves, "would that bike make me faster", Kevin would answer that question with and huge "Yes!".  Kevin upgraded from an entry level Trek 4500 to a brand new 09' Bianchi SOK 29er.   This bike is equipped with some of the best components out there and 29 inch wheels on an extra large frame, pretty much makes this bike an unstoppable monster truck.  There are a few races left this year, and with this upgrade, expect Kevin to jump ahead in the standings.  Kevin and Adam rode together in Casper mid July and he is looking faster then ever.  Kev is more confident in any rocky decent, faster around corners, and the 29 inch wheels roll over pretty much anything with comfort and ease.  Kevin is currently in 7th place in his age group in the sport category.  I think the 29er needs a good monster truck name, how about Grave Digger????   Just a thought.

The race was fun, all except for a ton of people holding everyone up in the single track and hills, making people get off.  I would of done better but someone ran their bike into me and made me fall off my bike and then run/walk up the big hill.  The single track was fun and I was cruising through that, catching up to the other racers and then had to ride slow until we got into the double track or they moved over for me.

Laramie, WY mountain bike series:

I've raced the final two races in the series down in Happy Jack/Curt Gowdy recreation area's.  This is by far the most fun series i've ridden in.  The trails are amazing, the shwagg is never ending, and there is free beer at the finish line.

The first tuesday went really well.  I paced myself with Pader Enger (who placed 3rd overall at the Laramie Enduro 111k bike race) and held on until the last half of the final/third lap.  When I got the race I was really nervous.  I saw Dave, who races for the cyclologist's in Fort Collins.  He won our age group in the Winter Park, Co hill climb in May, so seeing him there made me feel like this was a race worth driving the 3 hours to.  Long story short, I placed 4th in expert and beat Dave by a few minutes.  Pader pulled ahead by about 45 seconds and the top two beat me by one and a half and two minutes.

The second tuesday was the most fun i've ever had on two wheels.  The race ended at the end of lap two because of one of the most intense lightning storms we've ever experienced.  Lightning was crashing everywhere around while the rain came pouring down.  When I say the trail turned into a river, I mean it.  On a climb to the finish, 4 and up to 6 inches of water was gushing down the trail.  I was in second place and caught up to the leader when it started raining.  I was fully capable of passing him and was planning to attack, but was having fun and feeling safe on his wheel.  So the race ended and we sprinted to the finish line even though people were screaming at us that the race is over.  We could hardly hear them over the rain and thunder.  What a great time!!!

Bio:

My wife, Andrea and I have been living in Casper since February.  I've been riding nearly every day since our move out here.  There are great jeep trails on all the mountains out here which are ridable.  Rattlesnakes, cacti and serious spandex-hating cowboys are the only thing in my way from riding pretty much anywhere in WY because there is public land everywhere.  Just one upgrade has been made to my bike.  A new rear wheel.  DT Swiss 340 hub custom built to a Velocity Aerohead rim.  It's pretty sweet.  Someday I'll be able to afford the matching front wheel.  Not this year though.  I won some great swagg at the Casper Mountain race here in town.  I got 1st in expert and won 50 bucks.  The bontrager x lite carbon handle bar did not fit my stem, of course, so I gave it to Kevin.  Upgrade made to the Grave Digger!!!  My next race will be at Curt Goudy state park in Laramie, WY.  Goudy has over 30 miles of single track and it's all awesome.  Then I'm planning on racing at Sol Vista resort (where they held nationals this year) in Granby, CO over the Labor Day weekend.  I'll keep you posted on the results.
